I am planning to re-enact my late newly wed parents 1930ish trip from Cameron, La. to Lane Field (Port of San Deigo) Ca. They did it in a 1928 truck with no Interstate system as my dad was a pitcher for the Padres. Took over a week and dozen tires Dad said. I have hired Backroads.com to plan a route beginning on Hwy 190 at Merryville, La. Being from SW La. I know how to get from Cameron up to Hwy 90 and over to Tx. state line. We have to go north from there as 90 becomes I 10 which is a NO-NO. So day 1 is Cameron to Merryville. Here is the link for day 2 route from Backroads. Merryville to Centerville Tx. Plan is post Covid vaccine but I thought I would post routes and members IE shops and help along the way would be nice. Stephen https://goo.gl/maps/pKR1Wz9Xrb6bSs3A7
VCCA members have access to a list of over 50 Technical Advisors who can help you with your car. It's worth the price of membership! While you can get a lot of information for free in this forum, sometimes the info that you REALLY need is only available from the right person. This is what "The World's Best Chevrolet Club" is all about!
And what will you be driving on this adventure ? Sounds like a lot fun. Hopefully when this trip gets going you will do daily reports so us not so fortunate to be able to do it in person can take the trip by your reports.
In 2015 we did the Great Race Route 66 in a rare L code 66 Hemi Coronet. 1 of 18 ever built. We now use much cheaper cars. It was a HOT blast. Stephen PS could not get link to copy so google Great Race Hemi Coronet
I want to make a suggestion for a place to check out as you get close to San Diego: the Antique Steam and Gas Engine Museum in Vista CA (42 miles north of San Diego). Here's a link to their website: https://www.agsem.com/.
Another wonderful exihbit at the AGSEM is a 1919 one-owner Chevy one ton truck that is in great and original shape. The only modification that was done to this truck is that the wheel spokes have been painted. It even has the key sticking in the original governor mechanism.
I'm sure I took some photos of this truck when I was there, but I cannot find them.
Cheers, Dean
