I changed my setting to NOT receive email when someone adds to a thread I am following, but I am still receiving them. Signed out and back in. Cleared cookies also. What to do?

You probably need to “Expire Cookies” and then log in again. Your cookie for this site includes preference settings.

There is a link to do this lower in the column on the right side of the forum listing page.

Rusty, please reread the above. When I said cleared cookies I did as you described. I did that twice before I ever posted. However I will do it again. Maybe third time is the charm.

Computers! I DON'T get 99% of the notifications for threads I want to see lol. Only random threads notify me so don't blame yourself...

They call that user antagonism or business as usual.

Thanks for noting that. I did read that.

I think there is a difference between “expire cookies” and “clear cookies”.

“Clear Cookies” is an action that you take to remove the cookies from your web browser. However, the other “side” of the cookie is still in your Chat profile. It includes your preferences. So when you log back in, it picks up that information.

The Chat side is there so if you log in from a different device it still recognizes your preferences.

Hope this helps.

The link in the right hand column states "Kill Your Cookies". I have killed/expire those suckers four times from that link, but they refuse to die. So what now?

Not sure if you are doing it but my tech man always tells me to shut the computer down and restart when you do something like that. Just another possibility.

Hi Russell,

I agree that is the link I was referring to.

Did you clear your cookies in your web browser?

Yes and yes. It appears they may have finally died as I did not receive a email about yours or Shorty's reply .

Thanks for the input.

One other guess is that there is a “refresh” cycle on the server for preferences.

It’s all about controlling costs and improving response time for what is important.

I have run applications where we paid more to have parts data update almost instantaneously. We saved costs by refreshing the background data about users and locations only once a day.
