The Master is black with red striping and tan mohair(I believe?). Does anyone sell the 38 stock interior? Thank you in advance

Not any more. Hampton coach had a good replacement but they are out of business.

I’m interested if the stripes are more of an orange-red. Based on the information I see the stripes were vermillion light on a black car in 1938. The point code for a black car in 1938 is 231.

Funny, I’m looking at a picture I took today. She won’t be home until the weekend. The paint does look orange-ish red, two thick stripes surrounding the turret

The stripe color is the clue that my ”˜37 has been repainted. It is still a black car which matches the trim tag code.

The double stripes are red which is not the correct color for that year. After I started looking closely I also discovered that they are vinyl.

Any reputable upholstery shop should have access to mohair and be able to replicate your interior using your existing pieces as templates.

It’s exciting to keep discovering new things no matter how long we’ve been around and I’m just a baby.
I’ll post loads of pictures when I get her home. She has one tail light but does have dual horns and the optional bumper shield(whatever you call it) on rear.

First thing I would like to do is the headliner, rest is presentable. Never had interior work done so I’m afraid to find out what it costs. I will run fresh wire while headliner is removed too.

I will be test fitting my new headliner in the next week if we get decent weather. I'll provide feedback on vendor/quality/fit on it then. It looks good but I won't be ready to fully install it until the body/paint is complete so don't want to find out at that point it's badly done.

I would be more concerned about the condition of the brakes, seering, suspension and engine.

I believe the only wire up there is for the dome light. Having the complete headliner in place makes it much better for the installer. They just use your old one as a pattern.

That one tail light is really interesting. The PO of my 38 user separate lights for signals, front and back.

Hi Michael,

I do not know the details of the wiring routing for your car.

I agree that the dome light wire is above the headliner. It probably goes up one of the windshield posts and then to thet center of the roof.

On my ”˜37 coupe the wire to the fuel tank sending unit passes up and over the passenger door. Fortunately I was able to pull the new wire through without removing the headliner.

Take a look in the Body manual. It might show that wire routing.

And the single left taillight is correct for a Master car. Sometimes dealers would install the right tail light as an accessory. That is what I have.

1938 Upholstery
There were two upholstery materials:
Master De Luxe Cedarrose Mohair Velvet and Master Heathercheck Mohair Velvet.
These are in my 1938 Dealer Show Room Album.

I forgot to update this post after test fitting my new headliner:

It fit my Coupe well. My car consists of a shell on a rotisserie so very easy to test fit the headliner. I installed all 4 bows in the pockets and then installed the bows into the roof starting at the front bow. This held the headliner in place so i could check the fit on all the sides and it looked fine with lots of extra material and the overall fit was very good.

I ordered my headliner from Chevs of the 40's as I had a credit from some cores. The colour was Dark Taupe and material was Napped Cotton. This looked like the same colour/texture that I have seen in other 1938 Chevs. It was lighter taupe than I expected but was not a tan so I was very happy with the colour. I got the matching windlace/wire-on kit in Dark Taupe and had repop sunvisors finished with the same material as the headliner just to get it done and have it match properly without having to ship my tired sunvisor cores across the border..

As Tiny has said, a local shop should be able to match the rest of the interior. I got the headliner this way since it was easy and made from a proven pattern and was suppose to be a good match for the original. Now a shop can focus on just the actual interior fabric.

I received samples from https://smsautofabrics.com for some reason but they are nice. I visited their site but they only advertise for no easier than 1948, maybe they are expanding into the 30s

If you do order from them be prepared to wait. I ordered from them last April and they quoted four months and said they had the material. Now they are promising this month IF the material that has been ordered arrives. The only thing that they will not hesitate on will be charging your credit card.

Took 9 months to get my headliner but I was not in a rush for it. All restoration services have been very busy during Covid as there is an increase in free time for many people so projects that have been waiting and collecting dust have finally gotten started by many people.

Be thankful you're not shopping for a puppy!
