on my 1937 Chevy Master Deluxe 2 door sedan I have to lift up on the door handle to close the door . I discover on both doors someone welded a small weld spot on the striker plate ?? Do I grind the welded spot so I can remove the and install a new striker plate ?? Could that be my problem ??

When the door is open part way, and you lift up on it at the trailing end, do you detect any "play" in the movement of the door? Does the door move up and down any amount while the car body remains stationary. If so, the hinge pins are probably worn, letting the trailing edge of the door drop a bit as soon as it is opened.

I agree with kaygee. Most likely the problem is wear in the hinge pins. The previous owner was trying to compensate for that with the weld spot on the striker.

One way to check this is to remove the striker wedge on the door after you mark the position.

Close the door slowly and look at the alignment in the opening.

There are hinge pin and bushing kits available.
