Upholstering my 34 Chevrolet Roadster and now need to make a new front roof bow that ties into the top of the windshield frame! I have seen many articles on what is the best wood material to use but not able to find it! So what would be the best material wood to use for my roof top bow to the front top windshield frame?
Here’s a few pictures of what I have now!
Thanks in advance!

Hard maple, ash or cherry, do not use any kind of oak as it will react with weather. I made mine out of maple.

My first choice would be ash and then maple. If you check with Chistech he may be able to recommend a good source to get it from.

Thanks Steve! Found a 2-1/2 x 4 x 66 inch long walnut wood! Has a tight grain and somewhat easy to shape! Not as hard as ash or maple! Should easily last past my lifetime!

Thanks guys for all your help! Just finished making a brand new copy of my 34 Roadster top front wood bow! I used walnut and still in the hard wood family with a hardness rating of 1,010 walnut is a tight grain plus somewhat easy to shape! Now expoxying the bolts in place then will clear coat seal the bow! Here’s a few pictures of the job!

Nice job, looks good. Thankfully it doesn’t appear as complicated to make as a 30’-31’ cabriolet front roof bow is. They are a pain to make as they are compounded curves with a ton of inletting. The walnut should be fine I would think too.
