I’ve got to admit I’m as guilty as the next guy, but to a point. I don’t come to the forums as often as I used to and very rarely look at any other sections than the 29-32 one. Today I looked at the new member section (first time in a long time) and saw a bunch of new member posts. First time I’ve seen them. What really bothered me is I could see in some cases over 30+ views of that post and not one “welcome “ from any member. That does not look good for our membership and just supports some other club’s forum posts where it’s been commented that the VCCA forum members are not that welcoming or friendly. I mean, come on guys, we were all newbies at one time and we all got greeted by someone when we joined. I can’t understand reading a newbies post and NOT taking on minute of time to post a welcome. They are people just like us with a love of old chevys. Take the time and welcome them aboard, they are this club’s future!

I joined recently, and was also surprised at the lack of a welcome.

One member asked me for a favor, and subsequently called me a liar (sort of) so I haven't been back much.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the lack of warmth.

A belated WELCOME ABOARD!!! Sometimes some of us get so involved or intriqued by the post that we neglect to pay attention. It's not intentional it's just that we might get caught up with the question at hand. There is also possibly some hesitation due to the fact that we get lots of hits with questions from folks that ask a question and then fail to return or respond. I hope you have had a chance to review the site and will stick around as I think you will find there is a great bunch of guys (and gals) that are here to help when we can.

When I come to the Chatter forums, I click on Active Threads to see the latest posts across the forums, rather than just the 1912-1928 threads that I'm interested in.

However, I am guilty of only answering the folks who have something from the older era, because I'm not qualified to answer their questions.

Chistech's point is well taken. We can (and should!) welcome all new folks, regardless of our own particular interests or expertise.

Belated welcome Jokester!

Thank you for your post.
As a new person possibly looking to join VCCA I couldn’t agree with you more on all your points

I felt more like an outsider trying to get into a “select” group on one the few responses I received.
On the other hand I also heard from one person who made suggestions who to contact. I took his advice and after speaking with the person he suggested he then hooked me up with an individual he thought would be able to answer me questions
A few days went by and I didn’t hear anything so I sent this member an email myself to start the conversation.

Sadly it’s coming up on a week since I sent my email and not a word back.

When thinking about getting into a vintage car the support group you have is very important
My mistake was thinking folks would embrace a new interest keeping the cars and the club alive

Welcome to the VCCA. We aren’t the snobs you might think we are. These members have a wealth of knowledge. It’s just a little hard to always get the response as quickly as we would like. But please give them a chance. You will be happy if you do.

Deb,
Not all Chat members visit on a daily basis. It is not like a text or email that at least gets to the inbox shortly after it is sent. Even then it may take several days to respond depending on other priorities. Then some emails get put into the spam folder and never found by the recipient. That happens all too often. As John advised "give them a chance" to help.

Buy some old junk and ask for help. I love this group, they really care about preservation. I am a rookie but welcome anyway. Stephen

Deb,
You had 5 posts from 4 separate members in the first 5 days after your initial appearance. The first one was within an hour of you introducing yourself. That seems pretty good to me. I'm sorry you have not heard from the club contact who was referred to you. The world is a bit upside down these days, be patient or send out another smoke signal.
I plead guilty, I don't often welcome new members unless their vehicle falls into my area of interest. That has been a mistake on my part and I will correct it.

Mike and members,

Yes I did get responses and sadly we can misunderstand or misinterpret the typed word.

But some of the responses were not aiding me or looking to support my inquires but left me feeling defensive because I was new to the "4 cyl" world and warning about how different it is from my previous vehicle experience. When a response says "for the record" that doesn't come across as a friendly hey welcome message.

I have loved cars for many, many years and have always enjoyed the people I have met through that love. I was so excited over the car I was looking at and was looking forward to learning from the "experienced" folks more about it and be a part of the Chevrolet lovers family. My expectations must be out of line.

It appears I am making waves here and I don't want that, although it is good to see how you do support each other.

This should be fun not defensive.

Stay safe
Good bye

Deb

Welcome aboard Deb
I hope you are not saying good bye forever.
I have had a great experience here when I joined. I jumped right in and asked questions and searched for information.
every one was helpful. I had no expectations and it was better than I expected.
Hope you continue to join in.

I am concerned when people think we on Chat are not welcoming and supportive. So I reviewed the posts including your initial one contemplating the purchase of a 4 cylinder Chevrolet and feel each responder was trying to be helpful though maybe not 100% encouraging.

As an owner of several 28 and earlier Chevys I am always concerned that potential buyers of those vehicles need to understand the differences between them and more modern ones. Part of that is most of us are dedicated to the restoration and preservation so having new owners not be satisfied with their new purchase and feel they need to modify the vehicle is concerning. However if the new owner understands and relishes the experience it is Valhalla. Also we are aware that the vast majority of "experts" will advise the new owners to make modifications to make them safer or more enjoyable.

I am sad that you apparently decided to leave but it is your prerogative. My hope is you realize we are all trying to help but our "bedside manner" might not be the optimum.

Hi all,
I am a new member of this chevy group but not new to the world of old cars. I have 3 Model T’s , a 14 Maxwell touring model 35, 78 corvette Pace car, 7 motorcycles, and a 31 Chevy Sports Roadster. All for preservation and driving fun.

My 31 is a great driver, so much so that I have been looking for others.

I enjoy forums and look forward to many car answers for my Chevy’s.

Cary

A hearty Texas welcome to Chat for a wise collector. I have owned at least one 1931 Chevrolet for the past 50 years. I currently own several. They are indeed a blast to drive. Get a lot of attention and way too many have a relative that owned a Model A just like your Chevy.

There is a VCCA region in the San Antonio area. A great bunch of folks. I have been a member since they were founded even though I live over 200 miles away.

Aloha Everyone -

I have a project., 1933 Chevrolet with following information on firewall tag:
Job No: 33-551
Body No: N 14924
Trim No: 25
Paint No: 132

From what I have been able to determine vehicle wad black with red wheels and yellow trim.

What I'm struggling with is identifying whether it is an Eagle, Master or Standard. From what I've research so far it identifying it as a Master due to stationary chrome window channel on front windows, and an Eagle based on frame cross member's alignment with rear running boards bracket and long plates perpendicular to the rear engine crossmember on each side that are riveted to the side rail.

I'm trying to identify the correct wire harness to purchase to move this project along. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Mahalo in advance.

Fred

First of all the Standards and Masters are completely different. Not hard to tell apart. The Masters have three doors in the Hood, the Standards have only louvers. The Eagles had the divider strips between the window and the wing roll down together, the Masters had a stationary divider. By this you should be able to tell the difference.

Aloha Jon T. -

Very. much appreciate your guidance. Based on body characteristics you identified my vehicle is a Masters. Will be ordering wiring harness today.

What I'm still fuzzy on is the frame characteristics I read in another post dated I believe 2003, using the cross members descriptions I posted originally identifies vehicle as an Eagle. Making guess. production had common chassis between Eagles and Masters.

Quick question concerning number of horns - how many, one or two did each, Eagle, Masters, Standard have? My vehicle only has one, however the passenger side headlight bracket does have bolt holes that would seem to accommodate the mounting bracket for a horn.

Again, very much appreciate your helping me to identify my vehicle!

Pretty sure the passenger side horn was an option. My 33 Master has only one horn one the drivers side. No such bracket on the passenger side. If you need an extra horn I may have one.

The second horn was an accessory.

Hey Chistech I was greeted and helped upon my arrival. I think only one person went out of their way just to say Welcome!
However I'm kind of a grumpy Sumbich anyhow and figured when they were helping me by replying to my gauge issue it was more of a welcome and less waste of time. But that's just me I suppose. In the event I meet someone on this site and become friends with them that'd be Koo I suppose. However I'm not looking for validation in my personal life on here . Just my Beautiful Trucks Life!

Welcome
Hope you have a great experience here. I had a great big learning curve and still learning about my car. I feel the the people here have filled the gap quite a bit. I am still asking questions. Some of the posts make me chuckle. Maybe you will too.
