Hi all
I’m hoping those with more knowledge and resources than me can help me out.

How long were the same axle shafts used in the ¾ and 1 ton trucks starting from 1946?

I am looking for a couple of spares, and know the same axle shafts were used in both single and dual wheel trucks at least up to 1954, but have no info beyond that.

I’m thinking the length of the shafts were different by the 1960’s, possibly even by the 1955 second series. Definitely different by the time Chevrolet stopped using the HO52/72 around about 1972.

The original part numbers were:
3680977, 17 splines, 31-1/4” to inside of flange.
3680978, 17 splines, 37” to inside of flange.
Flange is 4-1/2” diameter with 8 bolts plus 2 holes for jack screws.
The above measurements were plus or minus a bit depending on the parts book.

So… can anyone please tell me how long those same axles were used so I know what donors to look at? Thanks very much!
