This is a shout out to recognize Chris at YNZ Harness for his great service last week.

Those of you who read my posts know that I can be pretty crictical of the parts and service from the various businesses we use to keep these old cars going.

So it is important for me to recognize those who do great work.

Monday a week ago I needed to order parts to make some repairs to the YNZ harness I installed on my ”˜37 a few years ago. The damage was due to my oversight.

I was trying to order what I needed using their online catalog and a shopping cart. I quickly got frustrated trying to select the correct wires and terminals. So I called YNZ. Chris answered the phone with minimal playing of telephone bingo as I call it. I described the area of the harness that needed repaired and that I wanted the repair wires and terminals to match the original. That was all he needed to put together my order. And it was here in Iowa on Friday without expedited shipping.

The whole transaction was great value for the cost. This includes a pleasant and knowledgeable person, the parts I really needed, parts that fit, and good delivery.

YnZ owned by long time VCCA members has been providing wiring services for probably 40 years. I have purchased a bunch of wire harnesses from them over the years. They are top notch. They do business the right way (a good product supported with customer service to try to make sure all are pleased with the transaction). If there are problems they attempt to solve them fairly and pleasantly.

I have ordered a complete wiring harness including reverse polarity, for my 41 cabriolet from Jn/Z. Nary a hitch. Perfect harnesses. Well made and well identification i of wires.

Well worth the money I spent. (I'm not near as good or as patient or as smart as "Jayhawker."

Best,

Charliecomputer

BTW: Other wiring companies such as R Island I may make as good a product but I have no experience with any of them. dance

We’re lucky we have a couple great options when it comes to wiring with YNZ and RI Wiring. Both have a great product and both offer great customer service. Now if we could just get other vendors like upholstery material and machine shops to be as good!

Y&Z and Rhode Island have been both competitors and cooperators for many years. It is the best of both worlds as they don't have to costly duplicate needed parts and materials but cooperate in getting larger quantities that a single firm would have to do. There are sill a few old style companies that believe in making a top quality product at a reasonable profit and also keeping their prices reasonable for their customers. Wish others would do the same.

Ted (Chistech) is also a great guy with which to do business. Treat people as you would like to be treated. Getting to be an endangered species.

Thanks for the compliment chipper. So are you! By the way, that Harrison Sr. Heater I got from you is creating quite a stir among the 32’ olds guys. I was able to get the Oldsmobile factory bulletin with installation instructions for the Sr. Heater and it is the only heater that was recommended/dealer installed and now other guys are trying to find them for their cars. It seems I’m the only guy who researched for the proper heater for my restoration and no one else has the correct one in their car. When you’re side by side with another 32’ olds and you can prove to the judges that your heater is factory correct with documentation, it kind of leaves the other guy in a bad situation!???? Don’t have any more of those Sr.s do you?

Ted,
That is the only one I found. Must have been an early take off or maybe on a shelf for many years as the condition was very good. Glad it went to a good home with someone that could appreciate it. Love the "one UP" on those jealous Olds people (was going to use another word but resisted.) Proper research often pays dividends.

It was a case of being in the right place at the right time and asking the right person. I needed it and you had it! I’ve never seen another advertised anywhere. What’s pretty neat is the adjustable shock pushrods are actually bent a special way to clear the plumbing of the Sr. No one really knew the reason why the shock down rod had a very unique bend which doesn’t make sense without the heater in place. With the heater mounted, the need for the bend is obvious. It’s a very tight fit clearing the top of the inside cowl by about 1/8” and with the heater hoses on, the clearance to the shock down rod is minimal.

Wow! I as well as most others would not have guessed that the shock rod was designed so a heater could be installed and not all cars had heaters as they were dealer installed accessories.

Back to wiring and the great service from Rhode Island and Y & Z. Has anyone had good service from any other wiring reproduction companies like Narragansett Reproductions?

I’m not sure if Narragansett is still in business. Not sure of the story exactly but I believe two brothers had the wiring business in RI then they split, giving us RIW and NW. not sure who was in business first. I do know one brother passed and I believe he was the owner of Narragansett. That’s about all I know!

Ed Pease, the brother who opened Narragansett Reproductions died in August 2018.

There is still a basic website but the links for catalogs do not work and there is no pricing information for materials.
