I have a few questions about paint colors and detailing methods for my 1955.1 3600. I understand the painted grille should be Bombay Ivory, with black inner bars, and the Chevrolet lettering should be black. What is the best way to get a factory look to the application of the letting on the top grille bar? The originals look like they might have been sprayed through a mask, but I'm not sure. Same question about best method for the white Chevrolet lettering across the dash and the black vertical stripes on the dash.
Next question is about painting on the stainless front hood ornament. I assume whether sprayed or brushed, it'd need to be painted with a self-etching paint. Correct? Are self etching single stage paints something easily custom mixed?
Next up "Baking Dulux"... I'm assuming this is a heat cured enamel. What would be the modern equivalent?
Next can anyone tell me if Bombay Ivory is the correct base color for the hub caps on 55.1? Or is there another color for them? I ask because 54 had different greys for bumpers and hub caps.
Finally, I have heard that there might be a service bulletin that tells how much flattener should be added to various paints depending on where they are applied. For instance the dash paint, perhaps the inner grille bars, etc.? I don't think the interior paint, especially the dash, should be as glossy as the exterior of the truck. No survivor I've ever seen is anyway.
Thanks!
