My ”˜41 coupe bucks or surges while going down the road at speed. There’s no surging while accelerating, and it accelerates strong, and smooth. No missing either. This problem only occurs when driving at 45 or 50 mph or above. Am I dealing with timing, carburetor, or ?. Thanks, Sid

Possible vacuum leak or incorrect metering rod adjustment.
If either of the THINGS pulling out the choke should eleminate the problem....as a test.

I ran the test as Chev Nut suggested. Pulling out the choke does improve the situation. I noticed that the amount of choke made a difference too. I could have to much or not enough. I guess my next step would be to check for vacuum leaks. That test would be to spray something like WD 40 around the intake. Correct? Thanks, Sid

I was under the impression (from Charlie) that '41 Chev's all behaved this way. That's because when you take your beautiful '41 down Main St. on a Saturday afternoon, people everywhere will be attracted by the sights and sounds of your car and stop in their tracks and stare in awe. (If it runs smooth and quiet, no one will ever notice it). You are then entitled to puff out your chest a bit , push back your fedora, and lift up your nose as you drive by. Of course, any Fleetliners will look down their noses at you and snort with scorn, but you can't please everybody. lol
