I put the new glass into the top channel with glass setting tape. The channel was a tight fit, however, I was driving on a hot day last summer with the windshield raised and the glass dropped down and out of the channel. I was able to put it back in ok but I assume it will fall down again on a hot day. Is there a better way to secure the top channel?

glass setting tapes are available in a multitude of thicknesses. I have several different thicknesses for c-1 and c-2 corvettes. you can have enough to do your windshield if I have what you need(no charge0. just accurately measure the tape you used that failed and let me know. mike mccagh

The product description is "Glass Setting Tape for Side Window & Windshield 20ft roll". It measures .035" thick. It is a rubbery almost gummy material from GW. I am wondering if it is for windshields surrounded by a frame and not hanging from a channel. Let me know if you have something you think would work.
Thanks

Does anyone else have this problem? What have others used on these roll up windshields? I can try squeezing the channel tighter, however it tends to shear off the tape when I push it down. Thanks

Do you lubricate the tape, channel and glass when you attempt to install the glass in the channel? Soapy water should help.

In addition to Chippers suggestions you might try lightly rounding/sanding the glass top edges . That should help to keep the glass from cutting the setting tape with its sharp edges. How are you installing the tape? I found it best to put the tape over the glass and then tap the channel down over the glass and tape.

I did put the tape over the glass first. I may have wet the tape, but don't remember as I put it on about two years ago and hadn't used the car until this last summer. I will try again with new tape and tighten the channel. I was wondering if the tape from GW was the best one for this application.

If you sand the glass at all, use a spray bottle and wetsand paper. Keep the glass wet and cool. Safety Glass can heat up quickly causing it to crack or start it to de laminate from the plastic core. Often, we don't even know it's gotten warm or hot. I learned that from a glazier.
