There is no VIN tag as that is a Federally mandated identification number. The vehicle serial number would have been on a plate screwed onto the firewall passenger side.

I agree with Chipper for trucks that started life with the commercial cowl (single piece of steel that acts as the firewall and the dash).

For the vehicles that came with the Chevy factory cab, the vehicle serial number plate is nailed to the passenger side of the wooden box that surrounds the gas tank. It faces the passenger's door. That's where Lurch's plate is located.

Is the bell housing bolt pattern in 1928 the same as a, say, 60s Chevy II 4 cylinder? Thanks

The bell housing uses a different bolt pattern. An adapter might be made but proper positioning of clutch plate to flywheel and also length of the transmission input shaft are critical to proper operation. I assume that it has the four speed transmission which internally is basically the same as 1946. Horsepower and torque of any replacement engine are also a major consideration.

Once opened, keeping all those worms in the can will be a problem.

The existing four speed tranny will comfortably propel the truck up to 30 mph.

FYI, first gear is a granny gear. Walking slow, but it will pull up tree stumps. Great for parades. For regular driving, I just use 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears.

You have to pull up the little latch on the stick shift to get into reverse. Reverse gear is located to the left and pulled back.

Cheers, Dean
