On October 23, 2020 I ordered three 1941-48 gear shift knobs (cheaper if I bought three) from Classy Chev USA out of CA. Ad on eBay said "free 4 day shipping." Well, they may come in today's mail but as of this post I haven't seen hide nor hair of them. So much for their four day free shipping. I don't know if I'll ever order from them again but this slow delivery sure give me pause to reflect on my past experience. A positive feedback is on a slippery slope and about to go over the edge. Is too! Best, Charlie

Snail mail might be extra slow because of the huge influx of mail-in ballots.
Hopefully your items will arrive soon.

I don't place blame with the election process or the USPS. The fault lies solely at the feet of the vendor for not taking down the claim of 4-day shipping. They should not claim they can do something if they ain't sure they can. It falls under the head of having a feeling for and anticipating the general pulse of what is happening right now. Those ballots didn't just happen the day after my order was in. What do I tell my poor ol' 41 cabriolet that is sitting in the garage with a broken knob? She wants to be taken out or drive but her owner will not go out in public with a broken gear-shift knob. It is distracting and for a 41 may result in wounded pride. Just might. Who knows how long I'll have to spend out there trying to dry her tears of disappointment and hurt feelings. Hmmm? Our old cars, unless it is a conglomeration of modified parts, have feelings. Do too! Just ask Tiny, Best, Charlie

Charlie,
I echo your sentiments abut vendors and misleading statements.
I had a similar situation with an eBay vendor. When I questioned it the explanation I got was that he shipped it within 4 days after receiving the order. He stated that he had no control of the transit and delivery time.
And I completely understand how embarrassing it would be for a '41 Cabriolet to e seen in public without a shift knob!

I'm VERY disappointed with Chevs of the 40s shipping cost. Today I shipped the speedo out of my 53 to a speedo shop via Priority Mail for $8.25. It was in a box that could hold half a dozen cables. Chevs insisted in using a medium flat rate box to ship a single speedo cable for $18. I specifically asked for a standard Priority Mail box instead of a flat rate box but was told the only other option would be UPS for even more money.

Some vendors are more concerned with their convenience than your cost. No matter which method you chose there always seems to be a reason the shipper can not do so. UPS is usually easiest for most shippers . The USPS is less for certain packages but it's a balancing act to determine the best rate. Top top it off some of the larger vendors get special rates which they do not pass on to the customers.

I recently had a similar problem, not with Chevys of the 40's.So what I did was when I sent the item I also put in the box a Priority Box with 8.30 on it (which is the rate now) and also a tracking number, which I got from the Post Office. I then instructed the shipper to put the item in the box upon it's return to me. Be sure a keep the Tracking no. as it will have duplicate for you. Worked great.

USPS is a wonder. They work for all of us, every day. Yes, they "could" be more efficient, but all in all, they are pretty good, given their objective. I have heard of occasional delays, but haven't experienced much, if any. I we all supported them and defended them from the recent political idiocy, they would be better. Who would think that sorting machines should be taken out on the eve of an expected load of ballot processing? And who says the "surge" of ballots is an overload? I get 1-10 ads and solicitations every day, plus my personal mail, plus occasional packages of radio and old car parts. What's the big deal with my ballot, which only has to travel three miles. It went in a month or so ago and was duly registered. Most irritating is the high rates charged for "postage" not really spent for it. I just placed an order that can be shipped for no more than $2 and the charge was $10! WL

I may be wrong but I think all their packages are " Priority" it's just that some are flat rate. The trick is to determine which is cheaper-std or flat rate. If it fits in a certain size box and is a certain weight or more flat rate MAY be cheaper however light weight shipments can be less. Then you have to consider where the package is going-light weight is cheaper but not always and if sending from the East coast to the West coast then flat rate is cheaper regardless of the weight. One of the benefits of flat rate is they provide the boxes free of charge and also the labels.

USPS provides all Priority Mail boxes free of charge. They are also location independent. Per box size and weight it costs the same to ship coast to coast or 50 miles. For smaller packages and boxes they are far cheaper than the commercial competitors and much quicker. What saddens me is that on a recent order the fellow who took my order went out of his way to find the most cost effective shipping and this guy couldn't care less.

Shipping cost has stopped me from making purchases in the past because the shipping was more than the cost of the item I wanted. I have also lost sales because of shipping cost!

All packages are not Priority but the cost difference is very small in a lot of cases.

We actually go out of our way to set up addresses within the USA since since shipping is so cheap within the US compared to what we see here. It's so, so, so cheap to ship, it frustrates us. I bet more than half of the items I ship within the US to my PO box are totally free shipping.
I just got a headliner and windlace from California. Maybe 4 pounds and raw shipping was almost $200USD and with the scam made-up UPS brokerage fees it cost me over $300 USD total. Shipping on the same item within the USA was $21. Sadly we can't get to our USA based postal boxes right now due to border closure.
A one pound shoebox line of sight down the road would be around $40 here. My mother sent 4 home made cupcakes ground from 4 provinces away and it was $60. Any time I can ship something for less than $25 anywhere, I'm overjoyed as it's just gotten crazy the last few years for us here. Shipping is almost always more than the cost of the item being shipped.
Pray your rates stay as cheap down there as they are.

This is what shows on their site: Mail & Shipping Services
Priority Mail Express Priority Mail First-Class Mail Military & Diplomatic Mail
Money Orders I don't see any other options other than the restrictions in each class either by weight or size or flat rate.

I just checked the tracking number. It's been two days and they still haven't given the package to the post office. Not a happy camper.

I received the knobs on Tuesday, 11/03/20. Remember the order went in on 10/23/20 with four day shipping. Already installed one on the car. (Fat side toward dash) Afterwards, I attempted to take it out for a drive. You know to assuage its feeling some, Wouldn't' start. Now I have to trace that problem down, It has the reverse polarity switch and so who knows where the problem may lie. Wish me luck on fixing it soon and with little hassel. Best, Charlie I agree with everyone that some vendors (sellers, et al, milk the system almost dry with their shipping, tax and handling charges. The statement of charges on the Paypal system can be a shocker at times.
