Hello, new member here.
So my Father restored a 1936 standard coupe in the 1980's and gave up on it when he found that it had a terrible vibration/ resonance in the drivetrain.
He's now in his 70's and I've decided to help him repair this issue. Upon inspection, I may have found the culprit. It seems as if someone (potentially my father) had trouble removing the front driveshaft bushing so they cut approx. 8" off the end of the torque tube. They then loosely fit a piece of pipe together with a new bushing, no welding. mad

So, this leaves me in the search for a new torque tube, driveshaft and rear end!
With the help of the VCCA community, does anybody know which years/ models will work with the 1936 standard coupe drivetrain? Does the Master and Pickup share the same length torque tube/ driveshaft as the standard coupe?
Any help would be welcome and appreciated!
Also any leads to find an original unmolested drivetrain would be helpful, as I'll also be posting an ad in the wanted section of the forum.
thanks again

The Standard rear axle is unique. Master and 1/2 ton are larger rearends and longer torque tubes. The design is similar but almost nothing interchanges because the size is so different.

Others may know if another year standard would work.

Your location says Seattle and I am in Wenatchee, about 170 miles east. Someone in my area built a hot rod out of a 1936 Standard, and about 2 years ago I bought some small parts from him. At that time he still had an engine and transmission, but I do not recall a rear axle. I guess there must have been one if there was an engine and trans! I do not remember who he was, but if you do not get any offers I could try to track him down. It is tough because with Covid there are no more cruise ins, and I don't have a name anymore.

If nothing turns up shoot me a PM and I will try.

The 1936 Standard fits a 1936 Standard only. Good luck.

Thanks so much for the replies and great info.
So basically, all of the 1936 Standard models from the sedans, coach and coupes shared the exact same chassis/ drivetrain/ wheelbase.

Bloo- good to know that you are local. That's exacly what I need to find are disgarded drive train parts from a hot rod builder.
Our search is on!
We will definitley keep you in mind, really looking forward to this working on this project with my Dad and getting him back out into the garage.
Thanks again!

. The part number is #474910 and it's 51-33/64" long. They can be shortened by a GOOD drive line person.
Have you checked Vendors like Filling Station, Patrick's, Classic Chevy, ECT.? (Avoid "Chevs of the 40s.
They send the wrong part and expect you to make it fit.")
The Standard (bastard) was different that any other Chevy. It tried to make an inexpensive Chevy cheaper.
To save costs, the U-joint was riveted instead bolted making it necessary to remove the engine or rear end when
replacing the clutch or transmission. Some frustrated mechanics filed off the rivets and some cut the torque
tube. Cheap to make, costly to repair.
Good luck, Lou

Very interesting information regarding the Standard models Lou!
Curious how you found the part number for that shaft and it's length. Is there a source for a parts diagram online for the '36 Standard?
Also, I do have a 1936 repair manual, but is there/ was there a larger more in depth book for these cars available?
thanks!
