Here it is the last of October 2020 and I have yet made any effort to fully engage in attending the subject meet.

One reason is that my wife is battling cancer and I don't know how that is going to impact my plans to attend the meet.

Another concern that we all share is this Covid-19 pandemic and the likelihood that the whole meet will be cancelled or postponed because of it.

As to the latter concern, what is the scuttlebutt as to whether it is likely the meed will be able to proceed as planned. In other words, what is the club's drop dead date in order to make a timely decision about the anniveresry meet in July 2021?

I feel that some of you may have better news on the pandemic than I, but the news reports indicate that almost all the states right now reporting an increase in positive cases. It"s enough to worry the pee out of us, ...well me at least.

Best,

Charlie computer

BTW: I see progressively more and more folks down here choosing to ignore distancing and the wearing of masks. That and other choices contrary to the advice of medical authorities may prolong the virus far longer than would otherwise be realized. But who knows. It's a mess.

BTW2: If a moderator feels that I am alarming folks with my concerns about the virus and its impact on the meet, then you have my encouragement to take this post and this thread down forthwith.

Cancer during Covid is certainly extra challenging and you need to make sure no one near you guys contracts Covid. We are dealing with the same issue with our 18yo daughter and I'll be so glad when one or the other is behind us. Hope your wife's treatments go well.

Indeed people here are being less and less careful. As soon as they get some freedom, they forget and try to live normally again. The numbers are climbing and at the same time the general contact and activity is increasing. This is going to be a challenging winter i think.

Someday, even if I can't get a car there, I'll fly down and get out to some of these events. Certainly won't be soon...

Charlie... Thoughts go out to your wife... be careful out there.

At this time the only commitment you would have to make is to book the hotel room, which is 100% able to be cancelled almost up to the meet. Go ahead and do that now, and all of the other stuff will work itself out.

As for the Covid concern with holding the meet, I can say for sure that all of us International Members are concerned that the borders will not be open in time for the meet. Hopefully if that is the case, the club will do the considerate thing and hold it off until 2022. Imagine that... a 61st anniversary Meet of our 1961 formation!

The Covid virus will still be an issue throughout 2021. So far ~ 3% of the US population has been infected. "Herd Immunity" requires 60+% of the population either have recovered with antibodies or receive a dose or two of vaccine. Inoculating 300+ million US people will take many months. A vaccine likely will not be available to non-critical people until next spring at the earliest. Surveys find only 30%-60% plan to receive a vaccine. Even with that the virus will still be a threat as the virus mutates to strains that may not be affected by an available vaccine. That is compounded by our seasonable flu viruses.

So the level of hazard may be reduced but not eliminated by the time the meet is scheduled to occur. So the real question is what level of threat is acceptable? to the VCCA leadership? government in Kentucky? and VCCA members?

A couple of facts that might have some bearing on the decision to hold or postpone are:

1. The Area 9 VCCA meet was held in Tennessee a month ago without any reported adverse impact.

2. The VCCA Southern Fall Tour was held in the Quad Cities area a couple of weeks ago also without impact.

If the Covid is no better nextyear I will not attend the meet. I have been really locking forward to it as I missed the last two and doubt I will be able to attend the next one in five years even if I am still living.
I am hoping for the best.

P.K. iagree

Gene,

The only one I could attend was back when it was at the Indianapolis speedway. Maybe 71.

If I can't attend this one then that will be about it.

I hope we can make this one. I have wanted to meet many of the members I have met here on the Chat, especially you. The only to guarantee we will meet is for me to owe you money. AgrinLet's keep our fingers crossed.

Best,

IF it were to be cancelled, think they will just push it to 2022?

I think that would be logical and the next one in four years to keep it on the same schedule. It will be a tough decision especially seeing that most attending will be in the over 60 crowd. By then hopefully there will be widespread vaccine available but even by then it will not be easy to judge the effectiveness.
