My 28 has a 30 AMP fuse on the light switch, seams high, the Chevrolet repair manual states that a 15 AMP fuse should be used. The head lights are brighter than I expected even with the motor off. The cowl and tail lighs intensity seems normal. when the head lights are on with the motor running at appox 1000 RPM the amp gauge still shows discharge even with the newly rebuilt generator.what head light bulb is correct for this car?

Jwp, I believe the book specifies a 21 candlepower bulb.

Hi jwp,

The correct bulb for the headlights on the 1928 is the 1129. To be absolutely correct, it should have the three ribbed glass.

Fortunately this 6v bulb is not hard to find, there also is a 12v (1129) I bought them by the case several years ago when I was a field engineer for Halliburton. Here is a pic of the one offered by the Filling Station which they sell for less than $2.50 each. The good ones are made by GE.

Hi jwp,

Is it possible that your headlight bulbs have been replaced with halogen bulbs? That would explain the brightness and also the additional amperage draw could prevent a positive deflection on the amp meter.

So is the 1129 6v or 12v or both?

Is it correct for the '32 also?

1129 is a 6-volt bulb, single contact and 21 CP.

The Filling Station catalog in that regard is either incorrect or misleading. An 1129 bulb is a 6-volt bulb. The 12-volt equivalent bulb would be an 1156. Sure, you can use an 1129 blub on 12-volts, but it will be a "flash" bulb instead of a headlight bulb! At any rate, the Filling Station part number of FS-22A, shown in their catalog, is actually an 1156 12-volt bulb (32 candlepower), and FS-22 is an 1129 6-volt (21 candlepower) bulb. Their listing should have shown that the 1156 was a replacement for the 1129 on a 12 volt system. However, if you do order FS-22A you will get the correct 1156 12-volt "replacement" bulb.

I just checked with the filling station and it is just like I suspected. The bulbs they are selling were purchased as surplus from a fellow who used to work for Halliburton and purchased them by the case.

As was posted above, if you have a system that was converted to 12 volts, and if you order FS-22A, even though is it is listed as an 1129 in their catalog, you will get the correct 1156 12-volt bulb for a 12 volt system. If you still have a six volt system you then order the FS-22 and you will get an 1129 6-volt bulb. laugh laugh laugh laugh

Tain't so Raymundo, I still got mine, I am holding on to them till they become vintage and rare, then I will sell them on eBay!
Those that The Filling Station have were made in a slave-labor-sweat-shop in Tiawan by 12 year girls that is owned by Martha Stewart Inc., both 6v and 12v!
