I need your expertice. My 36 is getting it's rock catcher air filter restored. How do you change the copper mesh? It looks like I have to cut the top, change the mesh, and weld it back together. Correct? And, I need a new felt. What do i use? Thanks, Hendo

The book said to wash it with gasoline. I found a filter that came apart for my 37 at a swap meet. You can buy new mesh for them.

Find a 1937-1953 truck air filter and replacement elements are available and it comes apart. Looks a little different

Gene, I have a modern filter for the car, but I'm asking how to change the copper mesh in the original stock filter, which will be for show only. Hendo

I replaced the copper mesh in my 32 using copper scrub pads . They are retained by a wire screen which had to be snaked out thru the top opening but without seeing or knowing what the top of yours looks like I can't advise if that's possible for you to do.

Steve, it's the 71/2 inch tall filter, and there no way of pulling the screens out without mutilating them. I thought somebody might have a super secret way of doing it without tearing it up. Hendo

That might be OK getting them out but not putting something back in. The scrubby pads are small and it took four to five to fill the space in my air cleaner.

I've got the Chore Boy pads. Is the inside wire mesh (that holds the copper in) a welded loop, or do the ends just butt up against each other? If they just butt up, then I might be able to get it out without damage and without cutting the top of the filter housing (and welding it back together) Hendo

On mine the wire screen just butted at the ends.

Onto the other question. What does the felt on top look like? Is it available, or is there something else I can use? Hendo

I think it just needs to be a breathable durable material of the correct thickness so the cover seats properly. I think i cut one out from a carpet underlayment piece of scrap.
