on the drive side door of my 37 Chevy it the door is hard to close I have to lift up on the handle then slam it to close flush any ideals ?/

It sounds like a bad hinge or adjustment. My guess its a worn out hinge, you may be able to take the hinge off and replace the pin. good luck

If I was doing it I would make sure there is no excess movement in the hinges. Then if the problem persists put shims between the lower hinge and either the door or frame.

Sounds like hinge pins and bushings.
