Hey everyone, I have a '38 Chev with a '47 216 CID truck engine. My generator bracket is not correct, and I can't tighten the belt adequately. I can't find a bracket assembly for a '47 truck engine with my usual suppliers. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

Generator or alternator? You said both. If you've converted to an alternator you can get brackets through most of the vendors. If you still have the generator I used to see them fairly regularly on ebay. Here's the alternator bracket I bought for my '53. I used the same type bracket on my '38. If all else fails I have a universal bracket I'd sell.

That's exactly the bracket I have Tiny. Come to find out, someone before me put the correct bracket in the wrong location on the water pump, and then added an "extension arm" to the generator to "reach" the incorrect location. All of this because ... we found out the water pump is a '54. Furthermore the belt is the incorrect width, because the '54 water pump belt slot is slimmer than the '47 generator. Wow, it's amazing how the old cars get pieced together over the years!!! Thanks everyone.

What Mark meant to say is - someone in the past had installed a narrow pulley water pump (probably a '54) on his '46 engine with a narrow belt running deep in the shimmy dampner and generator pulleys. Then when they installed the water pump they forgot to install the generator adjustment bracket on the lower left bolt of the water pump and instead installed it to the left bolt of the thermostat housing and of course the bracket was not long enough to adjust the fan belt. Enter the shade tree fix of extending the adjusting bracket with a piece of flat steel. Mark is changing out the water pump to a wide pulley pump with a wide fan belt and I wanted to leave the "shade tree" fix in place as it shows how some of us succeed in spite of our lack of mechanical knowledge but Mark demurred and is going to install the bracket correctly.

I just was searching on EBay and found a 1955 Chevrolet Camaro alternator bracket! Now that is a rare part! eBay can be a dangerous place to shop although I use it a lot.

My 1951 1 Ton is now on the road! My 38 Master 4 Door is also now on the road .

Thanks for the bracket offer chevy1937! I think the one I have is correct; it has just been altered with the "shade tree" fix. Going to correct it this Saturday. Thanks again!
