I own a 1927 Chev Capitol 1 ton truck, series LM. My research into the date the truck was built has raised a question. The block is number 346709, a number I understand was retained from 1926 models. The engine casting number is E147(May 14, 1927) and is a FERRO engine. The head number is 346886 with a casting date of B266(Feb. 2, 1926).

According to the July 1927 issue of Chevrolet Service News, head number 346886 started being used on cars after June 7, 1927. If the head I have was cast on Feb. 2, 1926, how can this be? Is it possible that these “new” heads were used on 1 ton trucks in 1926 and early 1927 but not used for cars until June 1927?
