I found today that the front engine mount is pretty far gone. As this car has been restored many year ago a couple of thing shaven't beenset right and I don't know what is the coreect way to mount it. Is it correct that the fron engine mount is assebled from unterneath? Meaning that the silencer rubber can be changed from under the car? I have seen that the fron engine mount is available for spare. Is there a source for the rear engine mounts? Help very much appreciated. chevy

The front mount is underneath and acts as a cushion (vibration absorber) . I am not familiar with the rear mounts bur perhaps if you have the old ones they could be re-vulcanized. The Filling Station offers this service .www.fillingstation.com Part number 60-391

The Filling Station is a part supply house located in Lebanon, Oregon, 97335 U.S.A.They are on the net www.fillingstation.com Also worldwide FAX 541.258.6968 Tech Line: 541.256.2114 They are on Pacific Time Zone check your clock before calling.
The front support bolts pass through molded rubber, housed in a stamping that bolts to the front cross member on the under side. At the rear end of the engine, a rubber mounting is placed at each side of the clutch housing. Forged brackets in-cased in rubber are enclosed in metal housings, bolted to the rear engine support cross-member. At the rear of the transmission and overrunning clutch or free-wheel mechanism casing there is a fourth mounting consisting of a steel strap with rubber vulcanized to both upper and lower surfaces, bushings acting as spacers slightly below the rubber surfaces and a support plate below the lower rubber. This arrangement permits a limited amount of horizontal movement at the front end of the crankcase and a slight rocking at the rear end. Hope this helps you.

Matthias,

If your '34 mounts are like the ones on '32-'36 cars and pickups I've seen (Filling Station PN GR-41) the rubber is easily replaced by bending the mounts metal tabs out with the heat of an oxy-acetylene torch, making new cushions from sheet rubber, then crimping the metal tabs back in your vise. I did that on the mounts on my '36 PU when I did the restoration back in the early 1970s and they are still perfect.

I notice that those mounts are presently unavailable new at TFS and "re-vucanizing" your old ones is $200. Wow! I remember that whole job taking only about 1/2 hour, not including the time to drive to L.A. Rubber Company to buy a scrap of rubber. My Victor oxy-acetylene welding set more than paid for itself just doing that one job.

I just did a set of rear mounts on a 34’ pickup per Rays method and they came out fine.

I have done the replacement with rubber from big truck mud flap a few times. Works well and hasn't cost me a cent other then the gas for the torch.
