20 gallons or 16? My original 60 Impala service manual says the capacity is 20 gallons yet all of the repop tanks I see are 16 gallons. Can anyone explain why and or how this happened?
Thank you
Michael

Based on Imperial Gallon vs the USA gallon? The USA gallon is smaller by about 16% I think so 20 USA would be 16.X Imperial gallons...

Many of us have grown up using Imperial so the USA gallon is strangely small. Our cars get better MPG up here.

Zink (tin) prevents rust. Chevrolrt used a special alloy to prevent rust. Modern plastic tanks are the best.

The reproduction steel tanks are 20 gallons. The station wagons have a different tank and is 16 gallons. The original tanks were galvanized and the zinc coated tanks don't have the same finish as the originals.
