I agree that it is becoming more and more difficult to find true original style “stovebolts”. Even if you can find just slotted head screws the head is not quite the same shape and size as the originals.
Most of the 1/4” screws you find in hardware stores today have a combination slotted/Phillips head.

The round head slotted screws today just don't have the "fat" head as the stovebolt screws did.

There are quite a few Chatter members who have spare engine blocks sitting in their basements, garages, and sheds. That includes the pre-1929 four bangers which used the high profile 1/4-20 'stovebolt' bolts. I suggest figure out exactly how many you need (and how long they need to be) and post a 'parts wanted' ad in that forum ( https://vccachat.org/ubbthreads.php/forums/26/1/parts-wanted.html). thanks for the offer. I have used ones. It seems the 1/4-20 x 1/2 slotted round headed screws that are available are not as "fat headed" as the ones that originally were on the engine.

Did you find screws yet? Have a look at McMaster Carr as Vila suggested. They have these https://www.mcmaster.com/91793A539/ They also have them in different lengths ( 1/2 and 3/4 etc ). Says the head is a little over 1/2 inch in diameter so they will look much closer than most of the stuff around Ole

I checked a few new "stove bolts" from McMaster Carr and a few removed from the side pan and oil pan of a '32 engine I am rebuilding. The are basically the same. Even a little larger diameter at the slot as the originals. Don't have a '37 so can't check those.

About a week ago I sent you a message saying I think I have what you are looking for. I bought a package of those when I restored my '36 PU in the early 1970s and still have some that I've been saving for you all these decades.
They are 1/4-20 with hemispherical heads just like a Mopar hemi engine.
