Just got a 30-31 head back from the machine shop after testing and cleaning. It is going on the shelf/for sale. What can I coat it with to keep it from rusting, other than oil. Thanks

Back in the day when I restored VW's NOS jugs and cylinder heads came with a product I think called cosmoline. It was a wax based product used to prevent rust. It was removed easily with soapy hot water.

oooh good ole cosmoline !!
great stuff used forever, also cleans off nice and easy with brake clean wink

around here i have been using CRC SP-400 is a similar concept, sprays on wet then drys to a waxing coating. i used it when doing my 1929. anything metal got a coat. jsut a light one. especially anything that got machined. it is made for long term storage up to 2 years. and it cleans off easily and nicely with brake clean.

Cosmoline is good if you have some. Thick oil brushed or slopped on with a rag or use a spray on oil rust-proofing spray like Rust Check or Krown. The creeping effect is good. I have spare parts outside I coat this way and they don't corrode even in the weather.
