What year did Chevy first put an alternator on the 235? I put a 6 volt alternator on my '53 using a universal bracket but I don't like the fit.

was early 1960, think Chrsyler did it first in 1962 then others followed. think 1962/3 was first for GM/Chevrolet, some did and some did not have alternator. Understand the first years still had external voltage regulators ?? think it was mid 70's when they went to he all included style we know today.

My friend has a 1931 with a 6v alternator on it of course not original, but replaced his genny with it years ago, and no complaints or issues.

Chevrolet offered an alternator as an option for a 1934 school bus.
A 1960 V8 with air conditioning came with an alternator. It was an option for some engines in 1962. 1963 everything came with an alternator except a Corvair.

I wonder if the alternator mount on the '63 235 would work on the '53 235? Searching for "chevy 235 alternator mount" showed some mounting on an angle and some flat.

I recently purchased a 58 to 62 261 and it has a alternator bracket on it that looks like it came from the factory with and a internal regulated alternator that does not line up to any of the pulleys.

the 261 engines would have had a generator.
The internal regulator alternators came out in 1971 for most models.

I guess I need to clarify. My intent is to put a later model bracket on my '53 235 if one exists outside the aftermarket. Thus my query if there's a Chevy alternator bracket that will fit my '53. If so, then I know what to shop for.
