I've got the head off the 46 3/4 ton and it's quite apparent it's been apart before.
I paid attention to the way everything was before I took the rocker arms off, but that doesn't mean it was assembled right by the last guy.
So... do the oil holes in the shaft face down, the way I found them? Or up?
It makes sense for them to face down... but on the other hand maybe they should line up with the holes in the tops of the rocker arms?
I can't find anything on this in the 1942-46 overhaul manual. The only mention is of the orientation of the baffle in the rear shaft. And that was discontinued by the time this truck was built.

Holes down or holes up? Thanks for your knowledge, it will be appreciated.
Ole

Holes down! That makes sure the oil is fed to the area of the shaft that is loaded by the bore on the rocker arm. When you see oil coming out each of the holes on the top of the rocker arm you know that the bearing surfaces are getting oil.
