I have owned this bottle jack for over 35 years. Just recently, the ring that allows the threaded extension to extend, spins and won't allow the jack to extend. (see arrow in photo) You have to hold it with a screwdriver to keep it from turning. Can this be fixed? Any thoughts? Thanks ![[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]](https://i.postimg.cc/qNRDMdNk/003-Copy.jpg)

I would replace the jack with a new one.

the ring part you can see is the piston/ram of the jack, a soak with WD40, PB Blaster or similar may well free it up then keep it wet with oil. Tony

Tony, he's saying it's free now when it shouldn't be. To the OP you might try taking a punch & hammer and swaging it around the edges in several places.

35 years seems like it has served pretty well. Time for a new one. They're not that expensive.

I think a small amount of super-glue or a little J.B. weld around the ring would do the trick.

If the thread is stiff enough the ram will turn when it shouldnt, free the thread and all should work as designed. The small pad on top should rotate on the threaded part, the threaded part should turn inside the ring that can be seen which in turn should raise and lower for correct operation. Tony

Mission accomplished. Took a center punch and put a dimple at 3 and 9 o'clock. Works just like new. Thanks Tiny. ![[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]](https://i.postimg.cc/RqfCBTVF/011.jpg)

Perfect. Glad it worked for you. That's what I'd have done.
