I finally started the engine in my new to me 35 standard. Runs good but there is a tapping noise comming from behind the pushrod cover. I removed the valve cover and isolated the noise to a pushrod that sometimes moves a little to side and is smacking the pushrod cover. I adjusted the gap for that pushrod/rocker but no joy. I am able to stop the rod from moving to the side by holding a screw driver against it. Tonight I will be taking the pushrod cover off to see whats-up.

Any thoughts about what I'll find?

Gary

You may have a bent push rod or the lifter spring retainer has popped off..When you get the push rod (tappet cover) off also check the bottom end of the push rod for wear.

34 & 35 trucks are the greatest. 36 high cabs are OK too.

Many years ago I had a similar problem with my '38 216. It was caused the a pushrod hitting the oil line that lubes the rocker shaft...

What I didnt find: 12 Valve Tappet Springs and seats 0.503 # 837321
