Looks like there are a few bids on it so far. The car appears much better than I expected. Should make a great project for someone to finish it. Hope the link works. If not search "1941 Chevrolet cabriolet" on eBay and "recently listed" to find it. At least that is what I did.

Chipper, Thanks for your help to those who may be interested in my car. I listed it as "1941 Chevrolet Cabriolet." I thought that would be ok but I can't even find the listing myself. I don't know what I did wrong but it is hidden pretty well. I guess my being cute with the "cabriolet." word made a difference somehow. It is currently over my reserve so unless something happens and some bids are withdrawn then it looks like it may find a new home. This is in spite of the fact that the listing is difficult to find. I bet your problem is that you called it a cabriolet instead of a special deluxe. Guessing since you have bids that it is too late

Curiosity has the best of me. What happened to the bidding on your car? I hope you don't feel I am being nosy. Thanks

No. I don't think you're being nosey at allt. It seems that some of the bidders were just playing with me. Just children having some fun. It's at 7.3k right now. It may go a bit higher toward the end of auction. Like last second or so. Best, Charlie

The low bid of the 41 on eBay sent me a loud and clear message. The message is that no one gets any pleasure of assembling a car anymore and want a car complete for far less than it takes restore it. Owing to my enlightenment I think I'll at least go ahead and paint it. It looks like i'm stuck with the darn thing. I'm not going to keep pouring money into completing the restoration with no guarantee that I will ever realize an increase in value nor am I going to keep adding accessories such a Spinner steering wheel, fender skirts, fog lights, back up light and foot scrapers to those already on the car. Color questions regarding paint on a 1941 Chevrolet cabriolet: a. In what color were most produced? (I doubt there is any factual history on this question. Accordingly, a guess would be welcomed. I would guess black.) b. In what color were most painted as restored or otherwise. (Again, a guess based on your memory of those advertised or seen at shows etc will suffice.) c. In what color would you choose if you were me? d. Of all colors available, what would your choice of color. (Gene, I know you salivate when seeing a Cameo Cream one but to me that color, although being unique to the cabriolet) would be about a distant fourth. Just before green.) All opinions will be appreciated. Best, Charlie BTW: At this point I don't think I'll re-list the car. BTW2: I'm not disappointed or depressed. Yeah, right!

I would guess that maroon would have been most common. That may also depend on different parts of the country. The southern areas generally preferedl ighter colors.

This is currently one of the most messed up economic periods in history. People are also just mentally exhausted right now from dealing with this Covid mess so would be reluctant to add a project right now.
This is just a really crappy time to try to sell a project car. Yes if it was completed, someone in a strong financial position might grab it, but for typical guy that would buy and finish this project, it is just not the time when your job, health and economy are being assaulted almost daily right now.
I would relist it later.

X2 It's a particularly difficult time to be selling anything of value. People just don't have the disposable income. I listed a cat's eye lighter that I've had for years (used it in the 38 for a while) and didn't get a bid. In good years I've seen them sell for $200 or more. I started my auction at $50 with no reserve and it tanked like a fat man doing a belly flop. Eventually the economy will pick back up.

I wont comment on the selling / buying of project cars but my choice of color would be the 1 closest (you can get) to the original for the car. Tony

Tony, It was black. I always wanted one in Ruby Maroon. These are my picks in order of my "bestus" mind set: a. Ruby Maroon (Maroon paint cost more) b. Kingston Grey (already got one in that color but a matching pair could be right nice too. Also, a rather scarce color. Other than mine, I have never seen one in that color. Probably a special order) c. Mayland black (original color and the body is such super smooth condition that it would be a good color with no reflective distortions at all.) d. Cameo Cream (only because that color was unique to the 1941 Chevrolet cabriolet) Best, Charlie

So Charlie,
What do you think it is worth if $14,000 is too low a bid?

$25K. Without any accessories, I will consider less reasonable offers. Best, Charlie

Thanks for that information Charlie. I asked because the last time I bought an old Chevy to restore was in 1965. I was a 20 year old college kid with a summer job delivering auto parts. One of the garages I delivered to had a rough but complete and potentially running 1936 Chevy high cab pickup rusting away out back. When I asked if it was for sale the answer I got was an adamant "I'll never sell that truck!".
At the end of the summer I was saying goodbye to all the guys I'd been delivering to and the owner of the '36 asked me if I was still interested. Long story short is that I offered him $100 for it (about $825 today) and he countered with $150. So we split the difference and for $125 (about $1030 today) it was mine and I still have it.
It's said that any item is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Ray, The trouble with that old saying is marketing and presentation have a large impact on what someone will pay. Admittedly, I have done a poor job on that factor. Another factor is vision off what the car would be with a few Ks more invested. All the above only make me feel better about keeping it. I will try one more time to sell it and if doesn't find a new owner I will just keep it. I always wanted a ruby maroon one anyway. Somebody wanting a 41 cabriolet may be missing a great deal. Go figure. Best, Charlie

"Somebody wanting a 41 cabriolet may be missing a great deal. Go figure."
Good morning Charlie.
What have similar vehicles sold for recently? I think those are called "Comps" in the real estate industry.
My wife's saying "There's a lid for every pot" may apply to your '41. There's probably somebody out there who simply can't live without it.
An open car can be a joy to have. Mine is a '32 Ford roadster street rod. A "chin-in-the-wind" roadster is like a 4-wheel Harley.
