Just had my engine and transmission rebuilt 235 straight 6 and the 2 speed powerglide and 6volt starter but when I go to try and start it the starter stays in gauged and some time gets stuck i think makes a winding noise as it wants to start what do I do to fix

You will need to add a shim or spacer to move the starter slightly so the teeth on the starter and converter (or flex plate) have a teensy bit of room and don't get stuck. Too much and it will destroy the gear teeth on the converter.

Okay I will try and put a spacer on the starter and see if that helps thank you

Didn't think that the gear may have the wrong number of teeth. Might check that as well.
