I'm back! Took the winter off but I've finally started on the body work to my 1941 Special Deluxe. Repairing the passenger side fender and the cowl right now and then moving on to the rockers, braces and floor boards.

There seems to be a small piece of curved steel just inside the door below the lower hinge. It has one screw through it and was spot welded in place. It's about four inches square. Driver's side has the same. It doesn't seem to be part of the cowl, the rocker panel, or the floor board. I don't see it listed in the Chevs of the 40s catalogue, either. Can anyone tell me what it is? I have a picture of it but I'm not sure how to attach it to this message.

Just wondering if it really is a piece of something (floor board, toeboard, etc.) or if I'm going to have to fabricate a replacement out of sheet metal. Fabricating isn't a problem. Already had to fabricate and weld a new inner lip at the rear of the fender so I can bolt the fender back to the cowl when I'm done.

PS (edit): Staring at it some more it just occurred to me that this could be a piece of the top part of the rocker panel that was cut and bent upwards so that it curves up to the door post rather than meeting it at a 90 degree angle.

Thanks!

Why do I spend more time under my car than in the driver's seat?

Well, nobody replied to this but it doesn't matter now. I figured it out. That curved piece just below the lower hinge on the front door posts is actually part of the inner trim or whatever it's called. Finally figured out it only looked like a separate piece because it had rusted away from the main piece. Oh well. I'll fabricate new pieces for both sides out of some sheet steel and spot-weld them in. Will have to do the same for the center door posts.
