'41 Chev serial number

I am interested in hearing from someone with a good understanding of 1940 or 41 serial numbers. I have a Chevy coupe that I believe is a 1941 Custom Deluxe I am trying to verify the year with the serial number from the plate on the firewall.I have checked some web pages via Google about decoding Vin / serial numbers , but have not found anything to confirm the year. Does anyone know if the sixth number in the serial number indicates the year ?

The serial number is located in front of the passenger side under the carpet/rug. Look there any you should see a small plate with the serial number stamped on it.

Thanx Tiny this is exactly what I have been searching for. I guess maybe now my problem is : 1 ) The serial number plate on my car is not on the floor on the passenger side ( it is on the firewall just above the distributor cap ). So , it looks like someone put it there during a previous restoration project maybe. 2 ) This serial number plate looks like it is an authentic
G.M. serial number plate alright , but it does not have any letters in it :
( 810 19 80 213 ).
Would it be o.k. to e-mail you a photo of it ?
Thanks ,
William

Unless maybe G.M. had some sort of different serial number system for Canada ?? This serial number plate shows that it is for a car assembled at the Oshawa plant in Ontario , Canada.

Canadian tags are indeed usually riveted to the firewall in the engine compartment. The model #'s are also different than the USA models in most cases. Post the model# or you could email me a picture of the tag and I will check Canadian books if it doesn't match what Gene has posted above.

You probably should check with your licensing authority to make sure you're not digging yourself a hole. In the States it's illegal to put the ID plate on a vehicle that wasn't the vehicle it left the factory mounted to. There are lawyers that make a VERY good living off of things like that. I personally don't care to make their next Porsche payment for them.

Thanx Gene. I agree. I am trying to determine if this is an incorrect serial number plate ( before I talk to the registry office ).
I have found another company in Alberta that can come & inspect my car & legally assign a New VIN number if this serial number plate is from a different car ( and it appears that it could well be , based on what you have found with your search ). Thanx.
You may very well have helped me avoid making that next Porsche payment for some lawyer. Cheers , William
