I have two 1950s and neither one has anything like that on it.

I've been around 2 '51 Chevs since I was 8 years old, driving one since 1959. Both were Deluxe models and both had battery drain tubes. The battery tray was one of the first things to disappear on those years...literally...as battery acid leaks and water ate the tray. The hose ended up falling off as the metal around it was eaten away. Later replacement trays didn't have the hose as it didn't do the job it was supposed to do anyway. Being near the front of the car, rain would get driven under the hood and onto the tray but rust, leaves and dirt would plug the hole to the drain tube. The drain tube was another of the General's great ideas that was somewhat less than stellar.
