Here is one for discussion. My 1946 Stylemaster Business Coupe Serial # is 3DJK 47295. According to the decoding charts, it was built in St. Louis, MO, in November , 1945 . 47,295 is the sequence #. The cowl tag shows Body S 2193.

Gene sent me , a few years ago, a chart that showed what months and years vehicles were built. 1946's were built starting on 10/3/1945 to 1/11/1947. HOWEVER, the UAW strike was 11/21/1945 to 3/13/1946. It lasted 113 days. So, vehicles were built 10/3/1945 to 11/21/1945, then the strike happened. So, for about 48 days they were building cars/trucks until the strike.

My question is : The body number on the cowl tag S 2193...does that mean it was the 1,192nd body built at St. Louis Plant ? ( Assembly plant numbers started with 1001 at each plant ) And, the 47295, does that mean it was the 47,295th Chevrolet built for that model year ? Wow, that's about 1,000 vehicles per day . Does anyone know if all 10 Assembly Plants were even in full operation in 1945 ? They must have kept running totals for production figures for each plant, I am guessing, hence that 47,295 #.

Am I reading/figuring this out correctly ? Thank you all . Hope you are staying safe in all this craziness.

Body numbers began with #0001. The first cars built were Stylemaster 4 doors only with the other body styles coming out in April and May of 1946 after the strike. I believe your 1946 was assembled in 10-3-1946. The business coupe was a low production body style and 14,267 were made.
