I am looking for suggestions on how separate the exhaust and intake manifold at the gasket. 1931 original 6 cylinder. Manifolds are not on the vehicle.

There will be rust, dirt and any other crud that can find it way into the cavity around the studs that hold the two halves together. Soaking with a good penetrating oil for an extended time will help. So will scraping. A moderate amount of heat and cooling can also help loosen the "glue" or "Goo". Persistence will pay off.

Hey Mike...

is this on your truck ?? if i remember correctly yours is a 1931 ??

I agree with Chipper, soak em good with LiquidWrench Penetrating oil that will work on the corrosion and rust. I also soak the gasket area with Goo Gone to eat away at the gasket and such.

after i soaked my set, i then carefully used a 5n1 tool or a nice metal putty knife and worked it gently around the gasket area, tapping it in a little with a hammer, then pull out the blade, flip it around and do the same. work around slowly and tap it in gently more each round. mine eventually popped apart, then i stripped it down and media blasted the parts inside and out,... then cleaned up painted, cured, and reassembled.

seen some where people have used an RTV and oh that just makes it more fun, same process, just tedious and ooey gooey !!
