Is there any other places to get restoration parts besides Chevs of the 40s or the filling station, both places seem to have a strangle hold on the market.

There are several other vendors but most specialize in certain years or models or limit the types of items they carry and not the wide range as the two you mention. Just google "chevy restoration parts" and you will get lots of hits .

Both of those places mentioned are owned by VCCA members that have worked really hard to tailor their product offerings to the needs of our many thousands of VCCA members. Both of them actively participate in our many shows and tours, as well as support the club with the advertising revenue they contribute. They have done a lot of the heavy lifting for Vintage Chevrolet parts suppliers in building their business. One time I went to a local supplier to ask if he had a set of fog lights in stock for my '51... and he literally got out the Chev's of the 40's catalogue and told me he could get some in. I'm pretty sure he thought I was a newbie to the Vintage Chevrolet scene. I said thanks, but no thanks and went home and ordered them myself...

You can get some mechanical parts through Rock Auto. Some through Kanter. Some through your local parts house. The stovebolt six is still used in a lot of old farm trucks.

Put a want ad in the Parts wanted section many members on here would like to see parts in their shop on your car!

Swap meets can also be a valuable resource as is placing a “want ad” here in the Chatter. Lots of us “old fogies” here have “treasures” too.

I also greatly appreciate the support that the major suppliers like Chev of the 40's and The Filling Station provide for our hobby. I purchase from them as well as many other sources.
Thanks to VCCA Chat I have learned quite a bit about sourcing parts for these old Chevy's. - There are no one or 2 or even 3 sources that will meet all your needs. - The major suppliers are essentially distributors and are limited to providing only what is being reproduced/manufactured today. - These distributors are highly dependent upon their sources for quality control. - Many of their suppliers also sell direct to the end user. If I can determine the original source I try to purchase directly from that source. - There are many VCCA members who as stated have "old treasures". Some of them have pretty good selections, especially for NOS parts. - I have learned the hard way to spend the extra time and money to find NOS parts, even if they are older aftermarket parts. They simply fit and work better.
Just my thoughts for consideration.
