I'm trying to figure out which way the rubber seal goes on the trunk lid on my 54 convert.I know the open side faces away from the trunk but which side is glued down the wider side or the narrower side.I bought the molded rubber that goes on the body by the hinges so that is a no brainer,a picture would help if possible, thanks in advance.

I believe the illustration shows the correct mounting orientation. My '53 is getting a third brake light wired today and won't be home until tomorrow so I can't verify in person yet.

I took some pictures of the seal on my '53. Put your email in your profile or post it here and I'll send them to you.

Go to the link provided by Tiny. Then scroll down on that page, you will see "Installation Assistance ", click on the pdf. It shows exactly how to do it.

Always happy to help. You might consider joining the club and showing your ride off by going on some tours. Great fun. There are tours and meets all over the country.

I'm in the process of replacing the trunk seal on the 54 convert,I had previously purchased the seal from National Chevy I believe. The seal that goes on the car body is one piece with the molded corners, the corners seem proper but are attached to the straight run that goes across the body, this does not even resemble the Steele products seal.I don't believe I am going to use it I will order the seal kit from Steele rubber products and follow the instructions they provide.Has anyone used this one piece seal with any amount of success?

I used the three piece Steele gaskets and had no issues. You need to make sure the gasket that mounts to the deck lid overlaps the lower, body mount gaskets by an inch or two.

Tiny thanks I will do that,I see that the molded corners are quite expensive What i'm going to do is cut the corners off the one piece gasket that I have and cement them to the proper body gasket that Steele sells, should work out hopefully.

I did not install the molded corners I reviewed my photos of the original trunk seal and it showed no molded corners, the seal went around the corners and terminated at about 10 inches.
