I figured out if I sharpen a dowel then I can get the stand pipe screwed into the carbrator, but do not know if it is tight enough. If needs t be tighter how do you do that? Also should a person put any sealent on the threads?

Also found out that after I broke the old standpipe out and had som potmetal left in threads I could not get out. I used a torch to heat up pot metal but not enough to melt threads and the old pot metal just fell ot then. I then ran a 11/16"-24 tap in there to clean any other stuff left in threads

You need a special tool in order to seat the standpipe.

I made my first installation removal tool from a piece if pipe with pins silver soldered to the outside. If I remember correctly I had to drill out the pipe ID to slip over the OD of the standpipe. Now have a specially made tool.

I had a picture of the special tool in my Carter literature. Until I found the original tool, I made one from a piece of tubing, and milled the business end to leave prongs in place. Then drilled the top of the tubing to install a cross-pin for torque.

To see a picture of the original special tool, follow the link, and scroll to "15211":

It is the third item from the right in the bottom line of tools:

Thanks. I see now what the square holes were for on the orginal. My new one does not have the square holes. Maybe I can make one that will use the 4 small round holes
