I have a high pitched squeal coming between the carburetor and manifold. Tightening doesn't make it stop, I suspect it is a gasket. What type of gasket material should I make this from?

thanks,
Brandon

You did not mention the year of the car but if a 6 Cyl. from 1952 and older I would guess the insulator under the carburetor is cracked....or some one installed a gasket in that location and it is leaking. No gasket should be used there.

Sorry, I forgot to mention it's a '31, stock 194. OK, thank you. It's been a long time since I've had the carb off, I didn't remember there being no gasket.

thanks,
Brandon

My reply was refering to down draft crabs only. I am not sure as to what up-drafts used.

There is a gasket used on the updraft. I do not know material but gas and oil resistant for sure. Also as it bolts up to the bottom of the exhaust manifold it needs some heat resistance. All the usual Chevy parts suppliers offer the gasket.

We use Armstrong N-8090 material.

The '31 with the Carter 150s RJH-08 carb used Carter flange gasket 1A-10.

Jon.
