Having trouble locating a set of jacks for my 38. Any alternatives I can use to lift the car? Thanks

Many modern jacks available will work well and are safer than the original bumper jacks. The original jacks are good for show and can work ok in a pinch but a bottle jack can be safer to have hidden away for roadside use.

I will not use a bumper jack on any car, they are very unstable at the best of times and have seen several cars dumped in the ground with the slightest side breeze. The safest type jack to use fits under the axle/suspension as close to the wheel as possible. Tony

Be sure to have a bumper jack for the 1953 . The rear wheel/tire will not be removable unless the rear end is jacked up so the wheel is dropped down and hanging free.

A 1934-1938 with knee-action needs either a bumper jack for the front or a very tall axle jack to use under the cross member.

It's tight Gene but it comes out with the scissor jack. I discovered that when on the SFT a couple of years ago and someone in the household ran over a stanchion, taking out the sidewall of the RR tire.

On my 1950 it is impossible to come out.

I agree with Gene about rear tire removal on the '53 -'54. I remember that well from my '53.
This post makes me wonder if the rear could be removed from my '37 when it is lifted by the axle. I am doing some brake work right now so will play around with that.
I agree about the lack of stability with bumper jacks. So the solution might be some nice solid 4 x 4 (or 2 x 4) blocks of hardwood to go under the bottle or scissors jack when you lift on the frame.

There will be no problem on the '37. The problem would bgan in 1949 with the half covered wheel opening. I can.t remember if the rear wheel could be removed on a 1955 but I can remove it on my 1957 with the larger wheel opening, although it is tight.

For some clarity. I got a phone call from my wife about the flat tire. By the time I got down to the parking lot a couple of club members had the car jacked up and were removing the tire. I wasn't the person who jacked it up. If I remember right it was jacked up by the side frame rail forward of the wheel which would have raised the body. To be honest I didn't pay attention to where it was jacked. I had other issues on my mind like trying to find someone who stocked a tire that size. I do remember the tire came off with no issue. This is the type of jack with the fold up handle.

I carry a small modern jack and bar. Works perfect and doesn't take up much room.
