Hello all, I am new to the forum and i want to thank you for letting me in the group. I just picked a new project car, 41 chevy master deluxe 2 door touring and I was wondering if anyone here eliminated the vacuum assisted shifter setup, my can is seized and I seen a kit on chevs of the fourtys but it is not avaliable. I in all my years of repairing cars and restoration have seen something like this setup, I was thinking of just pinning the linkage together and doing it that way but I wasn't sure if this is the way to do it. I really didn't want to butcher this thing up in case some out there needs on in the future.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Welcome to our chat site we have a SPECIAL affinity to 41s and I am fortunate to have a Master Deluxe 2 door Town Sedan myself. I have all the appropriate linkage to make the switch away from the vacuum assist original system. However, you might find it easy to recondition your vacuum assist if all of the components are still there. I think it might be best for us to have a phone conversation before you finalize your decision. I will send you a PM (personal message) with my phone #. You will notice a flashing envelope on the right side of the top of the page by your name signaling you have a message. Just click on it to read it.
Best wishes, Mike

DRF. This is not intended to step all over Mike but while I agree with him to not act too hasty, there is a solution. I have several vacuum shift gagets and will help you out if you decide to go original. There is nothing like using only your finger tips to shift. Mike is offering his help and I will too and yes, welcome to the club and chat. Best, Charlie

The vacuum shift is nice if you can get it working! The one on my 48 works great, just one finger to shift it.

Hi Dragracefan,
How did it go after the vacuum install? Did you have to adjust your shift rod levers?
