Can anyone recommend a replacement rear axle for my 1939 Chevy coupe, the car is going to used for long distance endurance rallying so want something robust. Thank you ????

Do you have a Master Deluxe (coil spring front suspension) or a Master 85 (front leaf springs....?

Then if it is a US car it already has a 3.73 ratio. The coil spring cars had a 4.22.Thee were no other choices.

Remember that through 1954 Chevy cars used an enclosed drive shaft. One of the big changes in 1955 was the use of an open drive shaft.

The 3.73 ratio was the best "high speed" ratio that will fit your existing axle without some machining work and welding. The enclosed driveshaft axle design changed in 1940 and was used through 1954. There is a 3.55 ratio gear set that will fit those axles but that gear set is hard to find. And that is only about a 5% difference.

On the other hand even if you had a higher speed ratio it would really make the engine work hard.
