Hi everyone,
Returning Life Member -- was off for a long while recovering from a stolen 1927 AA Coupe, so we found a very nice 1954 Chevrolet 210 Coupe. We are really planning on touring more hopefully and going on our own for weekend trips, etc.. Living in Florida, we really could use an A/C.
Question is -- should we convert to 12 v first, then add A/C or will the old 6 v(mine is 8v) system with a 6 V A/C unit work just as well?

Any and all opinions, advice or referral will be appreciated :)
Thanks

Hello miturn1: GO 12v just for the simple reason that most usable A/C units are for 12V auto there fore parts can be found with less problems.--jmo--POPS(davids)

All aftermarket AC and heat kits are 12 volt, you would remove stock heater for the required room.I would install a alternator, kits available from www.fifthaveinternetgarage.com You will need a Runtz voltage drop for the gas gauge, fuel tank sending unit will work ok.And so will the ammeter, change all bulbs to 12 volt and flasher. The heavy 6 volt battery cables are no longer needed I would replace them.As you can see it would be quite involved hopefully you could do all or alot of the work, good luck.

HI Stude,
Thanks for the information. Some I can do and some I will need help from others, but at least I've an idea of the issues and complexities now and can proceed with the project.

Thanks,
Rod

Patrick's had a good book to convert to 12 volt. Of course they are closed. It could be online some where. Will take a look.
