Is a 41 convertible trunk lid the same as coupe? Or any other model?

Eventually I’m going to have to hunt down a replacement so I’m gathering my info now.

That's a lot cheaper than having one made.

You can make an offer.

While your first reaction s that the part is too expensive, you will ultimately have to evaluate it among whatever other options you can find. For example, should you buy a decent parts car and sell what you do not need?

From my perspective that part is not in the greatest condition. It will take quite a bit of work to make it presentable. On the other hand, how may other trunk lids are out there and what is their condition?

I’ll start with taking some time to see what’s out there

Sourcing parts like this is one of the more challenging and satisfying aspects of this old car hobby ( or "addiction" as someone else in the household refers to it).

The trick is taking enough time to research what is out there and the asking price but not so much time that the better deals get sold before you have finished your research.

And now for the shameless plug to become a member of VCCA. I became a member in 2008 which is about a year after we bought the '37. I cannot begin to tell you how much that membership has added to the experience of getting an old Chevy going again. And it is not just the social aspect. More important is the access to knowledge, parts, and even tools and shop equipment. It has saved me time, effort, and money as well as minimized the frustration that can happen in this hobby.

Here is another way to think of it in your situation. Is the cost of your annual dues ($40 for full member with the G&D hard copy) an good investment to give you the knowledge to get a good trunk lid at a good price?

Thanks Rusty, you nailed it... I want to take enough time to know the market to make sure I’m getting a fair deal not only on the price, but also on the condition of the part when it comes to something like a trunk lid-all the while not losing out on what happened to be a fair deal all along.

I think I will look into becoming a VCCA member- if that’s truly the cost- it wouldn’t hurt anything.

The benefits far outweigh the cost. It also allows you to participate in club events like tours. The tours we've been on a a great time.
