Looking at adding a original radio to my 34 Master sedan. Where about is it located under the dash? Center , left , or right? Pics would help. Can a original be upgraded to a more modern unit and still look original? Thanks Dennis

The radio "box" mounts to the firewall with the, control head which is attached to the box to the left of the steering column. The dial face matches the speedo. face but much smaller. The speaker mounts to the center of the firewall. This is the Deluxe radio. The cheaper radio dial, etc. looks like he Deluxe and this is a one piece radio with the speaker on the side of the box.

The Radio 'box' to the Firewall like Gene said. There are already two holes there to mount it to. You also need a plywood reinforcement pad on the Firewall side. There is a hole in the center to mount the Speaker to.

Hi lowcab36,

If you will give me the Model number of the radio you propose to install, for a nominal fee, I will provide you with more information than you can possibly use. Information provided is all genuine Chevrolet information.

Your radio could be enhanced to sing and dance, but you definitely don't want to go there.

You can send your comments by PM.

My radio guy installed a plug so that I could play music of my choice through the radio in my 1936 truck. Otherwise the radio is original. I chose to do this because I would have been limited to one AM station in my area. I have a small device in the glove compartment that is loaded with "Big Band" and other 30s and 40s music. I would like to add some other things like the Hindenburg Disaster and War Of The Worlds broadcasts from 1937 and 1938 sometime.

Well I got a radio from the auction site without a speaker. Original 34 chevy. what can I use for the speaker? Can I buy the plug that goes into the "box" and wire the speaker to it. Would need a diagram. Should I just find the a 34 speaker? Sorry for all the questions.

The correct 34 Speaker is very hard to find. I've never seen a plug, a lot of Speakers have the plug missing.

This is a perfect example of why we deal with folks here on the Forum. Like the carb people, electrical, ect, all my radios are complete to include any needed brackets and an Owner's Manual.

I used the base of a valve that had the same pin pattern. I removed the glass part soldered wires to the inside of the pins and then filled the base part with expox to make it look like a orginal plug.
