I have about 1/4 inch and not enough room to change the belt,I did have a 4 row radiator made and that might be part of the problem. New engine going in so so time to fix that problem while its apart.

Did some digging through my manuals and I do have a 33 through 61 parts manual, from what I can tell at that time all that was available for 37 to 54 pass and light duty were two fans so that is most likely a 54 style fan which is the last fan made for that series of engines and its not quite right. I am going to hunt for a 48 and earlier parts manual that should have numbers for all the fans that would possibly work,by the time that manual I have was made most of the parts for the older vehicles had been discontinued.

I thought it was hitting the balancer, not the radiator?

Later engines have the water pump lower You might need to raise it up. Adapter plates exist. Shorter water pumps also exist for 235s in 216 engine compartments.

1937 was a particularly tricky year for water pumps and fans. There were actually 3 different water pump designs used in 1937.

The key difference with respect to fans was that the newer style pumps (the second and third designs) had a 1/2” longer shaft. This required a new fan design that had a separate hub and offset blades. The original fan was simpler 2 stamped double ended fan blades spot welded together.

If you dig around in some of my old posts you will see pictures and part numbers.

And all this was on pre-1940 216’s.

The fan I think is a 37 hits the balancer on the new engine and the fan that is on the existing engine is real close to the fan.

Balancer was not all the way in but the fan is now only a hair away so going to get a 1/8 spacer made.
