While I work through my starter issues, I've been push starting my '32.

Now, the shifting pattern seems to have become quite sloppy. I presume the stress of repeatedly popping the clutch has moved...something.

What should I look for to adjust/change/tighten?

Soooo, as you know the 32 was the first Chevrolet model to use synchronizers in 2nd and 3rd gears. They were still trying to work things out economically. They are not like many of todays synchronizers in being bulletproof or very durable. They were just designed to be an assistance in creating a smooth shift in a running car. By FORCING it into gear you very likely have severely damaged the inner workings of your transmission and may have to remove, disassemble, and repair your transmission. Parts for the 32 trans are not as easy to find as later years. Better to use the hand crank at the front of the car. When running well it is surprising just how easy they start with a crank. Just an opinion.

Check the collar around the gear lever and make sure that it is screwed all the way down to the gearbox,

I'm not sure what you mean by "forcing" it into gear. It slips easily into gear -- if you can find it. The shift pattern seems to have become sloppy, I'm guessing from the jerking of push starting.

I have not been able to hand crank the engine -- something is making it turn very stiffly. If I could figure that out, all would be well.

Any theories?
