Hi. Has anyone put the 1932 clutch with cushion springs in a 4 cylinder before the springs? I understand this is possible if you grind the bolt heads on the flywheel bolts. How much has to come off the bolts?
My 26 has the original clutch which shakes badly when engaging the clutch.

I adapted a clutch plate out of a '38 Chev into my '28 truck many years ago.

While it might take a little reading, there is some information on someone using a Holden clutch on a 28 engine somewhere in this string over on HAMB. (over 70 pages so far) https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1928-chevy-4cyl-motor.463465/Intertwined is some other information that might be useful.

If you use a modern clutch plate, the newer modern linings are a glass fibre mix that does not have the same co-efficient of friction as an old style plate with asbestos in the lining. It will grip, but under heavy loads,or very steep hill starts, the clutch will slip and start to burn.I had this problem in my '29 Olds sedan which I'd fitted a Holden clutch plate into.I found a plate out of a '37 - '40 Olds would drop straight in,and I've never had any problems with slippage at all.The Holden clutch plate I put in my '28 1 ton truck was showing the same problem, changed it over to a stock '38 Chev plate which is a drop in fit(same spline dia & count,10 spline X 1 1/8" dia),got rid of the slippage problem, especially when carrying a load.I've had up to 2 1/2 tons on it and no problems at all in over 25 years.

Great info, thank you. I added the link to my saved list so I can come back and keep reading.
