I can't get your link to work. If the engine has been changed in your truck, the most likely replacement would be a '53 - '62 235 c.i.d. Their valve covers were held in place by four 1/4" machine screws in the lip.

Mike, I cant figure out how to post a photo, can you clue me in. The cover is straight on all 4 sides other than the 4 indentations for the hold down bolts which are the full length top to bottom

If the cover has two 1/4 20 bolts on each of the long sides he probably has a 235. So he should purchase a 235 valve cover gasket.

The 1937-1962 valve cover gasket is tthe same .....for 216,235 and 261 engines. The 1954 and later have the four screw holes for retaining the cover.

No, 1937-1962 is the same size. The 1954 and up come with the bolt holes and most suppliers sell this gasket for 1937 and up. To make it look proper on earier models the little bump outs around the bolt holes can be trimmed off.

Will, I think that a gasket for a 235 c.i.d. Chevy will suit you. You might have seen a gasket from a supplier who has not merged the two part numbers. Genes post makes perfect sense. Many have disguised their 235 swap by installing long studs and a 216 valve cover.

Best Gasket makes a valve cover gasket specific to 1937-53 Chevy 6 (Best 27005) and one for 1954-62 Chevy 6 (Best 28018E). To see a picture of these gaskets, go to www.bestgasket.com and place the part number in the product search box. We stock these valve cover gaskets and they are priced at $16.00 plus shipping.
