In the back of my mind I recall an article in the G&D about a tractor GM built that operated like a team of horses. I think it was in the late 70s or early 80s issue I loaned that issue to a friend and he loaned it to a friend and so on ,so I never got it back. I think it was called a Sampson, I could be wrong on that. Maybe someone else remembers it! Seem to me it had reins that operated levers and the operator walked behind the tractor. It was very dangerous because it could back over you before you could whip the reins to get it stopped!

You are correct, it was a Sampson tractor. One of the 3 (?) remaining examples sold recently from the Iron Ranch, located in Ridgefield, WA, at auction for $58,800. Not sure where it went, but I think to CA.

Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it. Charlie BTW: I wonder how long the brushes in the generator would last with the band left off. Just nitpicking.

Thanks for posting the video. It was enjoyable. I wish they had produced it.........I believe I'd have liked it better than having to work on my old 8 and 9N Ferd tractors!!!

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hubcap than ride in a Ferd.
